Lucy is an award-winning International Latin Dance Champion and competed professionally in American Smooth and Rhythm. She also qualified World Salsa Championships in 2008. She studied dance in college and earned a Master’s degree in Physical Education by completing a thesis on The Evolution of Ballroom Dance in the US. Lucy began dancing at an early age, and before becoming involved in the ballroom, she studied ballet, modern dance, and Korean traditional dance.
She is currently a lecturer at UC Berkeley in the Physical Education Department. She enjoys introducing college students to dance and loves training people for social dancing at Just Dance Studio in Oakland. She puts her heart into instructing each of her students! She specializes in teaching social dances, Salsa, and wedding dances.
Lucy’s theory on teaching partner dance is to introduce students to a set pattern of steps, so they become comfortable with dancing. As her students gain confidence through these patterns, they move on to improvise and flourish on the dance floor. She has successfully taught this way for more than 15 years.
